What are the risks and consequences?

The telepsychiatry for you consultation will be similar to a routine mental health outpatient clinic, except interactive video technology will allow you to communicate with a mental healthcare provider at a distance. The use of video technology to deliver healthcare and educational services is a new technology and may not be equivalent to direct patient to physician contact in some people.

What if I want to withdraw myself from tele-consult?

You may with hold or withdraw consent to the telepsychiatry consultation at any time without affecting your right of future care or treatment or risking the loss or withdrawal of any program benefits to which you would otherwise be entitled. You have the option to consult with the specialist in person if you travel to his or her location.

Purpose and Benefits

The purpose of this project is to use telepsychiatry to enable patients to receive treatment by mental health care providers at their convenience without the expense of traveling to a different clinic.

Nature of Consultation?

During the telepsychiatry consultation:

  • a. Details of you and your medical history will be discussed with other health professionals through the use of interactive video, audio, and telecommunications technology.
  • b. Nonmedical technical personnel may be present in the telepsychiatry studio to aid in video transmission.
  • c. Video, audio, and/or digital photo may be recorded during the telepsychiatry consultation.
  • Medical Information and Records?

    All existing laws regarding your access to medical information and copies of your medical records apply to this telepsychiatry consultation. Additionally, dissemination of any patient-identifiable images or information from this interaction to researchers or other entities shall not occur without your consent, unless authorized under existing confidentiality laws.

    Confidentiality?

    Reasonable and appropriate efforts have been made to eliminate any confidentiality risks associated with the telepsychiatry consultation. All telepsychiatry consultations will take place in a private room. All existing confidentiality protections under federal and Washington State law apply to information disclosed during this telepsychiatry consultation.
